  • DMZ; Imjingak

    Imjingak is a park that was created to bring consolation to homesick of refugees who fled North Korea during the Korean War. About 5 million tourists visit here annually. Located about 7km south from the Military Demarcation Line and 500m from Imjingang Guard Post, Imjingak was made in 1972. At the Gyeonggi Peace Center you can watch a video on the current status of North Korea and materials and pictures on display about military, politics, society and lifestyle in general of North Korea. Mangbaedan is an altar where the displaced would perform a kowtow to their parents or grandparents left behind in North Korea to soothe their nostalgic resentment on traditional holidays or whenever they miss them. Since there are grand grassy hill and outdoor performance hall, Imjingak is also to be recommended as a family outing resort.

    Truly a unique & rare experience in the whole world. This visit will leave you with a dramatic sense of the tremendous tragedy of separated families, the division of the peninsula and the hopes for reunification. The North Korean 3rd Tunnel is one of several underground tunnels dug under the DMZ(demilitarized zone) by North Korea for the purpose of infiltrating troops into South Korea in case of hostilities.It is deep under the surface and tourists are invited to descend to the bottom to see it for themselves. Cameras are permitted in the DMZ but it is essential that all visitors bring along their passports.

  • Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

    Hwaseong is an immense fortress that embraces the downtown area of Suwon. It is 6m high and 5.7km long. One of Korea’ best known cultural heritages of 18th century, the fortress was designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1997. Designed according to the precise study and plan by distinguished scholars like Yagyong Jeong and constructed according to the mixture of the Eastern and Western theories on military installation, the fortress boasts a variety of distinctive beauty, design, and technology in four gates and 50 structures. it takes only 3 hours to tour the fortress and you can overlook the city from the top. From June to September when opened till night, in particular, luxurious, fascinating appearance of fortress and rampart under lighting gives another spectacle to tourists.

  • Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival

    The Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, held annually in early fall, is one of Korea’s biggest cultural tourism events. The festival aims to preserve and pass on the history and importance of the Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to future generations, as well as to commemorate the memory of King Jeongjo, who built the fortress.Jeongjo is also remembered for his filial piety and as a reformerwho brought about a renaissance to Joseon Korea. Some of the festival’s highlights include a “total” martial arts display, citizen’s parade, and a reenactment of the procession conducted by Jeongjoin 1795 to commemorate the 60th birthday of his mother, Lady Hyegyeong.

    This performance arts festival takes place at Suwon’s Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
